Rotary Club of New Bedford, MA - Weekly GAM

GAM...A nautical term describing the exchange of news between vessels departing from and returning to their ports...

June 7, 2017

This Week

First of all, the promised prizes were tickets to the United Way Clambake with Lobster this Friday.  Now 4 Rotarians and their guests will be able to attend on the club’s sponsorship of this event.  Have fun gang.

RotaFest 2017 has officially been put to bed.  A list of items discussed about making RotaFest better will be distributed to all members soon for comment and will be reviewed for the record at our next board meeting.  Long story short, we raised over $10,000 to help support our work as well as the work of local organizations.  If you were not at the meeting (or were present and had an idea after) please let us know anything you thought worked really well, needed work or something new for next year.

Tomorrow we start working on RotaFest 2018

Odds and Ends

Needed:  Ringing of the Bells chair.  THANK YOU ELLEN for agreeing to chair the Ringing of the Bells this year.

Needed: Editor and/or writers for the GAM.

Vice President Carole (soon to be President Elect Carole) is looking for Rotarians to be the program coordinator for one month next year.  If you did not do it this past year, please consider doing it now.  For most months, it would require finding 2 to 3 speakers and picking a place to have the evening social.   Speakers could talk about local events, teach a business technique, share a book they wrote, give a classification talk (this would be a Rotary member) or any other number of ideas.  Please let Carole know if you can take a month.  July has already been taken……

We are looking for some members to help spruce up our banners, the ones with the club flags in particular.  If a couple of folks want to get together and spread the banners out, clean them up (Magic Sponge maybe?), add new ones in the blank spots, re-attach loose ones, etc.  Just make them look better really. Might be more fun with a bottle of wine (my treat J )

We have Rotary name tags available (for free).  Let us know if you need one.

One More Thing – An Orren Classic

"Here boy", said the man to the boy who was helping him drive a herd of cattle, "hold this bull for a minute, will you?"  "No", answered the boy. "I don't mind being a director in this company, but I'm darned if I want to be a stockholder."
