Rotary Club of New Bedford, MA - Weekly GAM

GAM...A nautical term describing the exchange of news between vessels departing from and returning to their ports...

April 19, 2017

This Week

Is anyone going somewhere or doing something fun next week?  RotaFest you say?  Me too!!!   Updates below.

Welcome to our newest inducted member, Bunny Mogilnicki, of Bunny’s Bouquets.  Tom gave a wonderful induction reminding us all about that “AHA Rotary Moment” when you truly become a Rotarian.  Bunny stated she looks forward to fulfilling the Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self”.  She has already started down that road with work at the food pantry last week and help with Rotafest.  Glad to have you aboard, Bunny.

I wonder if the larger than usual crowd (16) had to do with our guest speaker, David Buck.  Cheryl introduced him as a true Renaissance man and favorite son-in-law.   David shared several tips and thoughts about wine and food pairing.  Who knew popcorn went so well with wine?  You had to taste it to believe it, and several Rotarians did.  Go see David bartending at Greasy Luck, one of his many occupations.  It was a great primer for next week.  What’s happening next week, you say…

VISITORS AND GUESTS: Guest Speaker, David Buck, (invited by Cheryl), sommologist for Traveling Vineyards. Visiting Rotarian, Lew Victor, Rotary Club of Brockton.  Boy, did he pick the right week for a makeup.

One More Thing – An Orren Classic

“When I arose to speak," related a martyred statesman, "someone hurled a base, cowardly egg at me and it struck me in the chest."  "And just what kind of an egg might that be?" asked a fresh young man.  "A base, cowardly egg," explained the statesman, "is one that hits you and then runs."
