Rotary Club of New Bedford, MA - Weekly GAM

GAM...A nautical term describing the exchange of news between vessels departing from and returning to their ports...

November 16, 2012

This Week

Just off a nice trip to South Carolina, I'm not yet back into my New England mood, but here goes!

Our program this week, brought to us by November program chair Robin, was a visit from Daryl Lopes, Head Geek at Southcoast Geeks, a technology training and solutions company. His message was (way over my 80-year old head) how to make maximum use of today's communication technology to help you improve your work capacity without destroying your home and family life.

In today's "do it now, or else" business world, Smart phones and ipods offer dramatic opportunities to increase efficiency, but only if you know how to take advantage of the vast value that new technology provides.  I don't have a business care from Daryl, but if you're interested, call/email Robin for connect info.

VISITORS AND GUESTS - Bill R. was accompanied by two UMass Rotaract members - Adrianna Wright, President, and her associate Catherine O'Loughlin.  These two young ladies were here to promote their free Monday, November 26th 5-7PM OXFAM support dinner.  More info can be obtained at awright2@umassd.edu or coloughlin@umassd.edu

Out other guest was Cilbert Reis who has been approved for RCNB membership, and is slated for installation in January.  Gilbert is administrator of Hathaway Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, sponsored by Alan.  My apologies to Gilbert for mis-naming his business last week.

Next Week

Best described as the rest of November 2012 - Wednesday, Nov. 21st - No meeting - day before Thanksgiving.   Weds. Nov. 28th, a day when we will gather at Cotali Mar up on Acushnet Avenue.

Odds & Ends

Almost too many to mention -  Battle of the Bells on Saturday, December 1st.  Still some spots to be filled.   Book with Robin.   Your cell phone number is wanted too, in case of need to reassign someone at the last minute.

Sunday, December 2nd - Breakfast with Santa. Volunteers to help out are needed - sign up with Michelle.  She also needs ticket sales information to ensure sufficent food supply.  Still need placemat ads and $200 sponsorships.  Please get info and $$$$s to Marc ASAP - final deadline November 24th.

Alan reports that things are looking very good for improved wine tasting event in April.

Thanks to volunteers to help MOLife Thanksgiving turkey give-away on Monday the 19th.  Robin, Kathy, George, Ellen, Toni and Cheryl will be the helpers.

One More Thing

Procrastination -.... Mr. Meant-To has a comrade, and his name is Didn't-Do.  Have you ever chanced tomeet them?  Have they ever called on you? These two fellows live together in the House of Never Win, and I'm told that it is haunted by the ghost of Might-Have-Been!
