Rotary Club of New Bedford, MA - Weekly GAM

GAM...A nautical term describing the exchange of news between vessels departing from and returning to their ports...

2012 AUGUST 30th

This Week

It's a bit difficult to report on Pres. Kathy's Wednesday "meeting" at the Waterfront Grille without adding a couple of "A's" since most of the "meat" part was in Rich's gigantic Cheeseburger, and the rest -- the "eating" - part - was about all that occured for the group of sixteen Rotarians and two guests.  Ellen said it nicely when she thanked the single waitress assigned to our table for doing a good job of taking eighteen separate (off the menu) orders; getting them all delivered to the right people, and giving each of us a correct separate bill.   Hope she got a decent tip after her great single-handed success.

All in all, a good lunch but tough place to try to have an effective meeting because of the noise level.  The after-lunch Community Service Committee meeting led by Robin will probably be reported upon at our meeting on Sept. 5th.

VISITORS AND GUESTS - Cheryl was accompanied by her son C. J., and young Mike was there with mother Pam.

Coming Attractions

Time to start some serious thinking about the "Guest Meeting" scheduled for September 12th at the Wamsutta.  With Alan at the helm for this event you KNOW it will be a lot of fun and full of Rotary fact.   Please plan to bring a guest.   I's sure that a head-count will be asked for, too.

Next Week

Don't forget BOARD MEETING at Better  Community Living on Ventura Blvd. will be on Tuesday, September 4th - 4:30PM - the day after Labor Day!  Then back to the Wamsutta for our regular meeting on the 5th.

Odds & Ends

Nancy has been asked to book members for monthly "Guest Speaker" responsibilities.Cheryl has already signed up for October - six more volunteers needed.   Great opportunity to bring folks in your business or social circle to Rotary to share their story with us.

MAKE-UPS - Nancy also needs to know if you have August make-ups.  Please e-mail her at nancy.wood@bclmail.com

And Finally

According to Grantland Rice - "For when the one great scorer comes to write against your name, He marks - not  that you won or lost - but how you played the game!"

..... and, oh heck -  With all of the political campaigning going on locally and nationally - I can't resist sneaking a cartoon from the Sept/Oct Saturday Evening Post.  Picture a candidate standing at a podium and speaking to a crowd and saying - "I'm running my campaign like a bra- not too revealing, but I still want your support."
